"Why A Hootenanny Series ? ? ?"These events are being set up both to provide a festival show for people in out of the way places and to allow the artists involved with an opportunity to exchange ideas outside of the club scene.
Too often, NW performers find themselves on bills that are totally set up by promoters and agents. The bands and artists have little to do with the shows other than showing up to play and some light promotion. The reality of this has, in a way, taken some of the "soul" out of what was once a very burgeoning DIY scene in the NW. This concert series is one small contribution to the NW music scene that is designed to be encouraging and fun for everyone involoved, a day based on the premise that pop music and art are culturally valuable beyond the commercial face presented to the public by mass media.
"Who is behind this?"
This concept is being spearheaded by Frequency db and Soylint Green. However, local bands and others are helping to set the events up in each town. The shows will be semi-sponsored by Odwalla, with 50 free juices to the first fifty people to come to the shows, Sunnyside Productions, and Resistor Records.
