Jatras
are traditionally itinerant theatrical troupes in the states
of Orissa and Bengal. They once traveled from village to village
entertaining the people with enactment of stories from the
Mahabharata. Some believe Jatra originated in Bengal, but Jatra
may have originated, like Chau, in the general region rather
than one specific state. Orissan Jatras have their own distinctively
Oriya character. |
