Hard Drive Info
Korg recently began shipping the D1600 with an internal 40GB hard drive, in lieu of the 20GB drive supplied with older units. Since we had occasion to install one of the new drives the other day, we took a close look at it because we knew you'd be curious.
Korg chose the 3.5" third height Seagate model ST340810A 40 GB Ultra ATA/100 drive. The drive select jumper must be set to the MASTER position (closest to the 40 pin data cable). Surprisingly, the drive spins at just 5400 RPM, not 7200 RPM like many computers are using nowadays. That means that you should be able to buy a ST340810A bare drive for a bargain price online or at your local computer store. Just the ticket to upgrade your D1600 without breaking the bank! You can get information about the drive from the Seagate web site at http://www.seagate.com. You can download the drive brochure and manual to keep with your D1600 literature. Seagate lists a variety of tech support phone numbers on the label of the drive itself. US owners can call 1-800-SEAGATE.
